How to Get More Google Reviews as a Make-Up Artist
The complete system for turning happy clients into 5-star Google reviews — without begging or feeling awkward about it.
If you're a make-up artist, hairdresser, or nail tech in the UK or Ireland, you already know that Google reviews are everything. Nearly 90% of potential clients read reviews before booking — and if your competitor has 80 reviews and you have 6, they're getting the call. Not because they're better than you. Because they look more trusted on Google. The good news? Getting reviews isn't hard. It just requires a system. In this post I'll show you exactly how to build one — the same system I used to take one of my clients in Dublin from 3 reviews to 150+ in under 8 months.
Why Most Beauty Professionals Don't Get Reviews
Your clients love you. So why aren't they leaving reviews?
It's not because they don't want to. It's because you're not asking at the right moment, in the right way, with the right link. Most professionals either don't ask at all (too awkward), ask verbally without a link (too much effort for the client), or ask days later when the emotion has faded.
The fix isn't complicated. It's a system. And once you build it, it runs almost automatically.
The 3-Step Review System
Step 1: Get your direct Google review link
Go to your Google Business Profile, click "Get more reviews" and copy the direct link. This takes your client straight to the review box — no login required, one tap. Make this link the most-used tool in your business. Save it to your phone. Know it by heart.
Step 2: Ask at the peak emotional moment
The best time to ask for a review is immediately after the appointment — when your client is looking in the mirror and loving what they see. Say: "I'm so glad you love it — would you mind leaving me a quick Google review? I'll send you the link right now." Then WhatsApp or text it immediately, before they leave.
The emotion fades fast. If you ask the next day, you might still get the review. If you ask three days later, the chance drops by more than half. Ask while they're still in front of you — or within 2 hours of the appointment ending.
Step 3: Automate the 24-hour follow-up
Send every client a WhatsApp message 24 hours after their appointment with a friendly note and your review link. Keep it personal: "Hi [Name], loved having you in yesterday! If you have 60 seconds, a Google review would mean the world to me 🙏 [link]." Most clients will do it if you make it that easy.
Extra Tips That Accelerate Your Reviews
- Aim for at least 10 new reviews per month — Google rewards consistency, not just volume
- Always respond to every review, good or bad — Google ranks businesses that engage
- Ask clients to mention your city and service in their review — this boosts local SEO dramatically
- Add your review link to your Instagram bio, email signature, and booking confirmation message
- Print a small card with a QR code linking to your review page — hand it out after appointments
What Happens When You Build This System
One of my clients — a make-up artist in Dublin — had 3 Google reviews when we started working together. Her competitor had over 80 and ranked on page 1. She was getting almost no new clients from online searches despite doing incredible work.
We built this exact system. Eight months later she had 150+ Google reviews and ranked on page 1 in Dublin. Her bookings from Google doubled. The only thing that changed was the system — not her talent, not her prices, not her service.
I build Google review systems for beauty professionals
across the UK, Ireland, and the US.
As part of my all-in-one business growth package, I set up your entire review strategy — so new 5-star reviews come in automatically every week, without you having to chase them.
